    Learning Unit Two
    New Student Mentors
As a New Student Mentor, you will create 1 entry tool, 3 creation tools and 1 publishing tool prior to the new academic year as a part of your training. Be sure to follow the rubric as well.
First, you will create a Mind Map through LucidChart. This will be used to show connections between you, the new student and campus resources. It can also be used to show your role as a New Student Mentor.
    Here is an example:
    {Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 8.26.44 PM.png}
    To use LucidChart:
Create an account (just make a free one).
You need to have three main topics (First Year Student, New Student Mentor and Campus Resources).
First Year Student will not have any words branching off of it, but should be at the top or to the left of your chart.
New Student Mentor should be in the middle of your chart. For this topic, you should have words describing your role. Use words you want First Year Students to know because they will see this.
At the bottom of your chart or to the right side, you will have Campus Resources. This is where you will list services or offices you think that First Year Students should know about.
Make sure to save your chart as a JPG so it can be uploaded to your New Student Mentor website.
Use arrows to connect yourself to the First Year Students and the Campus Resources.
You should include at least 5 bubbles for New Student Mentor and for Campus Resources.
You will make a presentation using Prezi. This will be to inform students about some of the resources on campus.
Here is an example of a Prezi.
    To use Prezi:
    You will create an account.
You should be sure to include 5 different campus resources. You should have information on each of them as well. You can include more than 5 though.
This Prezi should be posted to your New Student Mentor website.
You will make a timeline using Sutori. This is to help first year students know important dates and events on campus.
Here is an example of Sutori.
    To use Sutori:
    Make an account.
Add all of the months on the academic calendar.
    Add events that are useful.
You will make a video using iMovie. This will be used to introduce yourself.
Here is an example of an iMovie.
    To use iMovie:
    Start creating a new project.
You will want to make a short video using a video camera or other videoing materials that introduces yourself for your New Student Seminar.
Use iMovie to put the actual video together.
You can add pictures, title slides and transitions.
You can upload it to YouTube and then post it to your website.
You will make a website using Wix. This website will be for your New Student Seminar section to use. You will post all of the above projects to this website as well.
Here is an example of a website.
    To use Wix:
    Start by creating an account
    You should have a homepage.
You should have an about page that includes information about yourself and the class. This is where you will post the video you made about yourself as well. You should have the class time and location.
You should have a page with your projects.
Feel free to add other pages.
Here is the rubric for this Learning Unit.
